  About us

The EUROPERA Jugendorchester, the symphonic youth orchestra of the Art and Music Primary Schools of Euroregion Nisa, came to being in 1992 thanks to professor W. D. Ludwig’ s initiative as one of the programmes of the Europera project (as one of the Europera project programmes).Since its beginning the aim of the orchestra’s management (headmasters of regional music schools) has been to give the chance to the young talented musicians to play in the symphonic orchestra under the baton of professional conductors. They were different every year according to what partner organized the concert seasons. By means of this project young musicians have got many experiences in coexistence with other nationalities and cultures. Nowadays many young talents, the former members of the orchestra or its soloists are very successful in their professional careers. The EUROPERA Jugendorchester was invited to perform at the opening ceremony of the Saxon Assembly in Dresden and also in the House of History of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bonn, in the presence of the Federal President, Mr. R.Herzog.In 1995 and 1996, the orchestra was the guest performer at the festival of student orchestras, EUROCHESTRIES, in France;and in 1997 there was a tour to the United Kingdom.
As part of the project, in 1997, under the leadership of professor P Dierich, the Euroregionales Kulturzentrum St. Johannis in Zittau became a patron of the orchestra. Last year, 2004, in Zittau, the town where three countries meet, the EUROPERA Jugendorchester gave a concert along with the Severacek Choir to celebrate the entrance of both the Czech Republic and Poland into the European Union.
